Dale Hunscher, CEO and Principal Consultant

South Wind is a technology strategy consultancy based in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Founded in 1993 by Dale and Helaine Hunscher, South Wind developed commercial products for Open Data Base Connectivity developers, including ODBC drivers that are still in use today on literally millions of workstations worldwide.

With the approval of the XML specification by the W3C in 1998, South Wind began consulting in the area of XML/RDBMS integration. Projects included the design and implementation of high-volume real-time information refinery systems and editorial systems for multiple-media pharmaceutical information products.

Beginning in 2000, South Wind's CEO, Dale Hunscher, began an rich investigation of cutting-edge technologies. Using scenario planning techniques, Dale has engaged in strategic technology forecasting and feasibility analyses on behalf of Ann Arbor-based venture capitalists and entrepreneurs.

Dale began writing his first book, Design Conversations: Envisioning Content-Rich Enterprise Systems, in 2001. He saw the need to bridge the communications gap between decision-makers, end users, and technical staff responsible for building and maintaining complex enterprise information systems. He also realized that for most software developers, engineers, and project managers, there was no coherent high-level vision of what the next generation of systems would be like. Dale is currently working on clinical research management systems at the Center for the Advancement of Clinical Research at the University of Michigan Medical School.
